Vestibular Rehab

Have you ever stood up and felt like the room shifted? Or found yourself avoiding certain movements because they make you feel dizzy or unsteady? These sensations often point to issues within the inner ear or nervous system, which are key parts of how your body maintains balance. That’s where vestibular rehab can help.

What Is Vestibular Rehab?

Vestibular rehab is a specialized type of physical therapy designed for people who struggle with dizziness, vertigo, or balance problems—often caused by issues in the inner ear. When your vestibular system isn’t working properly, it can send confusing signals to your brain, making you feel off-balance, unsteady, or like the room is spinning.

Through targeted exercises and guided movement, vestibular rehab helps your brain and body relearn how to process balance and motion. The goal is to reduce symptoms, improve stability, and help you feel more confident moving through daily life.

You might benefit from vestibular therapy if you’re experiencing:

  • Dizziness or vertigo
  • Feeling off-balance
  • Nausea with movement
  • Difficulty walking in busy environments
  • Frequent falls or near-falls
  • Sensitivity to motion or visual triggers

Common Conditions We Treat

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)
  • Vestibular hypofunction
  • General imbalance and gait instability
  • Inner ear disorders such as vestibular neuritis, labyrinthitis, and Meniere’s disease
  • Post-concussion syndrome
  • Vestibular migraine
  • Neurological conditions like Parkinson’s disease and multiple sclerosis

What Treatment Looks Like

After a thorough evaluation, you can expect a personalized approach based on your symptoms and needs. Treatments may include:

  • Repositioning maneuvers (like the Epley) to treat certain types of vertigo
  • Vestibular testing with video goggles to identify abnormal eye movements
  • Balance and eye movement exercises to improve stability and coordination
  • Manual therapy and exercises to address neck pain
  • Screening for other causes of dizziness, such as blood pressure changes
  • Habituation exercises to help reduce sensitivity to motion

Some patients feel relief within a few visits… Sometimes even after just one session!
