Occupational Therapy

At Summit Physical Therapy we offer occupational therapy for rehabilitation care. Our licensed occupational therapists are professionals who work to restore or improve physical abilities and function, promote behavioral changes, adapt surroundings, and teach new skills. Our goal is to assist the individual to achieve his or her best physical and/or mental functioning in daily life tasks.

Summit treats occupational therapy patients with a holistic perspective. Our focus is utilizing therapeutic activities and exercises, manual therapy techniques, re-education of movement, and other specialty specific modalities to improve function, decrease pain, increase strength, and optimize independence in meaningful activities. Summit Physical Therapy creates a customized intervention program to improve a person’s ability to reach personal goals at each stage of life and stage of recovery from specific conditions or diagnoses.

What can be accomplished through OT?

Summit’s occupational therapists work with adults and children in the following areas:

They help these patients develop, recover, improve, or maintain the skills needed for daily living and working. Some of these skills may include improving fine motor skills, and hand-eye coordination for handwriting, cooking, and work-related tasks; learning or re-learning basic self-care tasks (such as bathing, getting dressed, brushing their teeth, and feeding themselves); and building strength and endurance needed to participate in an individual’s hobbies and meaningful tasks.

Occupational therapists can provide specialized equipment evaluations, for wheelchairs, bathing equipment, dressing devices, or communication aids, to empower individuals to lead a functional and independent lifestyle.

Finally, occupational therapists assist in improving attention, coping skills, and social skills to allow development of interpersonal skills for a variety of relationships, and maintaining positive behaviors in all environments.
